The latest updates on our project
Our people-powered solar electricity project has been making the headlines

Exciting milestone for Preston Park Community Energy Project
Solar panels are currently being installed on roofs across the neighbourhood as part of Brighton’s first community solar project. Installations come with battery storage systems, allowing homes to store clean, renewable electricity and use it whenever they choose.
Households have joined the scheme at little or no upfront cost. Participants are simply paying for the electricity generated by the panels that they use, at a competitive, affordable rate.
Brighton and Hove Energy Services Co-operative (BHESCo) are financing the installations and taking responsibility for ongoing maintenance. That means residents can enjoy the benefits of solar without the hassle of upkeep. Working alongside BHESCo are Lewes-based solar installers OneZero. As BHESCo is a non-profit making organisation, any profit will go back into the community.
This community-led initiative will cut carbon emissions while reducing participants’ reliance on the national grid, making participants less vulnerable to power cuts and price surges, therefore reducing household energy bills.
Our vision of a cleaner, greener Brighton is huge: we aim to make Preston Park Community Energy the biggest community solar programme in the UK. We hope to see solar panels on hundreds of roofs across the area, as a shining example of community-powered clean energy.
